Bruce Blumberg / George Staikos
Too many calories and too little exercise are undeniably the major factors contributing to the obesity epidemic, but several recent animal studies suggest that environmental exposure to widely used chemicals may also help make people fat. Bruce Blumberg, a developmental and cell biologist at the University of California at Irvine, one of those presenting research at the meeting, called them "obesogens" -- chemicals that promote obesity.
An 18-year veteran of the hospitality industry, George Staikos is known for his role as an educator, sharing his passion for wine appreciation. He is an adjuct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University and the Founder of the New Jersey Food and Wine Classic. The 5th annual event is taking place April 26-28.
