Red Tide
Oscar Schofield, Associate Professor of Marine Biology and Ocean Optics discusses Red Tide, its effects on the ocean environment and seafood. Some evidence suggests that the frequency of red tide or "algae blooms" are increasing - contaminating our fish and in some cases humans. Some algae blooms in Florida can result in "fish kills" and a few years ago 22% of the manatee population was killed during one such out break.
